A tribute to

Hilltop Parks Jack Daniels of Loxly (a.k.a. PC)

October 1996 - January 2001

There is a hole in my heart tonight, my friend has left me.  My only consolation is that my sister is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for him, she loved him as much as I did. PC loved to show and was resuming his much loved show career.  I am glad he died with me and not alone or at a show.  He came and got me, let me know there was a problem and died within 30 minutes. When it is my time, he will be waiting for me.

Did I mention PC loved to show?  I was hoping to grand him in premiership and he could be my travel buddy next season.  He was a beautiful cat that did not grand quickly in championship, he took his time to mature.  When he did grand he was the fifth grand for his mother, who became a two litter DM.  I will never forget the phone call I made from the show hall to his breeder.  She wasn't home and I left a message with her husband to tell her that Maddie was a DM.  He repeated what I said, then it sunk in.  He was excited and I was on the verge of tears. That was my 40th birthday also.  I hated to retire him and showed him a couple of times as a grand champion, just because he loved it so much.  Then he stayed home and started making babies.

I don't have many litters per year, so he was only a dad a few times.  The last time he sired was the day before he was neutered.  He went to the vets a happy guy.  He loved being a house cat, but he also loved his stud buddies.  My males live together and enjoy each other's company.  PC couldn't stay out of the stud room ( he loved being with his buddies), but he enjoyed the freedom he had to roam the house also.  He would run in the stud room when I opened the door, stay a few hours or even a few days, then run back out when he was in the mood to roam.

I am very glad he had 7 months of free roaming the house before he left me.  He slept with me the night before he died.  He was not a lap cat, but he made his presence known.  He had a quiet meow, but the loudest purr in the house.  He would climb on a cat tree when I was walking by and just purr, so I would reach up and pet him.  He would arch his back under my stroke and look me in the eye and tell me how much he loved us.

His last show was in Andover MA the beginning of November 2000.  He was best premier in 2 rings and second best cat in a Longhair specialty ring.  He was showing off and was looking good.  I was happy to be showing him again.  He loves hotels and thoroughly enjoyed his weekend.  But in true PC style, he went home and got in a tussle with someone, who scratched his ear up pretty good.  So he stayed home.  I figured there wasn't any hurry to get him granded.  He was entered in the Burlington VT show the first weekend in January.  I expected it to be a good show for him.  Someone had other plans and he died the week before. It was a very difficult weekend for me.  Absenting him was the hardest thing I had to do, then watching every Allbreed premiership final was the next hardest thing I had to do.  You see, I was showing an aby premier also, and he was best allbreed premier in 5 rings and 2 best in one.  He became a grand premier.  It was bittersweet, since I knew where he competition was.

Some people will say PC died too young, yes he did, but he had the best life and he died happy and in his prime.  He did not suffer. Some people will say he should be replaced, he cannot be replaced.  I have his son, and daughters and even a granddaughter.  They all have a piece of his wonderful personality, none has his total personality. Although he very last daughter is working on it.

He has left his mark on this world, he has taken a piece of my heart, leaving a hole that will never be filled.

Goodbye PC.  I love you.

Disclaimer:  Not all the cats pictured on this web site still live with us!!!  Most have lived with us at some point, but most have been a part of our breeding program and have moved on. I felt it was important to show the "cats behind the cats" that we have now and that have been part of our cats heritage and our lives.
